Please attend this important debate and vote for the Amendment on Humanitarian Visas and for the Motion as a whole

LD4SOS Council members Dr. Ruvi Ziegler and Dr. Bradley Hillier-Smith will be proposing and summating this amendment:

Humanitarian visas

In 'conference believes' after IV. (line 13) insert:

  1. creating pathways for submission of humanitarian visa applications prior to arrival in the UK is a humane and effective way of reducing dangerous irregular journeys.

In 'conference calls' after 6. (line 59) insert:

  1. the creation of pathways for submission of humanitarian visa applications, including at embassies and consulates at countries of origin and at channel crossings.

If it is passed it would make the Liberal Democrats the first UK party to have a policy on humanitarian visas.

LD4SOS are very pleased and congratulate Dr. Ruvi Ziegler on having the following amendment accepted and incorporated into the Policy Motion

Closure of inadequate asylum facilities (See P.59A of Conference Extra)

In 'conference believes' after IV. (line 13) insert:

  1. upon arrival in the UK, asylum-seekers should receive support necessary for their physical and mental wellbeing, and that protects their human dignity (including adequate healthcare, sanitation, and physical security) which the facilities at camps such as the Napier and Penally Barracks fail to provide.

VII. the inhumane conditions to which asylum-seekers are subjected at camps such as the Napier and Penally Barracks breach the UK's refugee and human rights obligations.

In 'conference calls' after 6. (line 59) insert:

  1. the closure of facilities such as the Napier and Penally Barracks, and for provision of alternative accommodation for asylum-seekers which ensures adequate healthcare, sanitation, and physical security, and which facilitates their fair and effective access to the asylum system.
