Action needed for next step in detention debate

All who are working for a better asylum/migration system in this country were encouraged by the publication of the All Party Parliamentary Group’s The Report of the Inquiry into the Use of Immigration Detention in the United Kingdom and its recommendations.

Now we need the next step, and there will be an all-party back benchers’ business debate in Parliament on September 10. It is very important that MPs do come to this debate, and we are asking you to write to your MP to ask them to do this.

As the report said ” It goes on to talk about the radical shift in thinking, a change in culture, more effective decision making, and better ways of working in the community with this group.

The Yarl’s Wood and The Verne reports have recently been published adding weight to the argument and Detention Forum have produced an information guide for your MP so they have all the essential material they need on the subject. So please do contact your MP, personally if possible, but if not by e-mail, twitter or phone, let them have this information, add anything relevant to your constituency, and ask them to go along.
