Right to Work to end destitution

Liberal Democrats for Seekers of Sanctuary made an impact at Party Conference last week. The “Right to Work” for asylum seekers is already Party policy, but we made sure it was part of our Welfare Policy, and this was agreed. Two of our members spoke up on the issue, and you can see and hear for yourself what they had to say.

We were delighted that this is now accepted as at the heart of our Party’s policy on how we view the welfare of all in the UK, and that the destitution of asylum seekers is no longer acceptable. Our policy also includes ending the infamous Azure Card, and allowing people to work or claim Section 95 payments instead.

These are the words that were accepted “Liberal Democrats in Government to commit to ensuring that no one residing in the UK suffers destitution, to use their influence to change the law to require asylum seekers to seek work after 6 months and to make Section 95 support available to those who cannot work, and to support charities working in the field of ending destitution in the UK.”
