CALL FOR 3,000 UNACCOMPANIED REFUGEE CHILDREN TO COME TO UK

There are so many unaccompanied refugee children, fleeing from horrific circumstances, who are attempting to cross Europe on their own. These are children who have no known contact with their families, and are very vulnerable to traffickers, abuse and exploitation.

Save the Children Fund have been calling for the UK to take in 3,000 of these children, and Tim Farron is backing this. He had a 10 minute rule bill in parliament this week and this is what he said in more detail.

There is a vigil for the victims of the Titanic Express Massacre, and protest at the ongoing violence in Burundi at 3.00 pm, Monday 28 December, in Trafalgar Square. Many people may not be able to be there, so if not, please light a candle, pause for a little while, and be alongside them in your thoughts. This is why.

It will be 15 years since the terrible massacre, Among the dead were British aid worker Charlotte Wilson, her Burundian fiance Richard Ndereyimana, Burundian-Canadian Arthur Kabunda, , and a number of Rwandan citizens. Several of the victims were children.

We particularly want to commemorate this day, and stand beside those who mourn and care because Charlotte was the daughter of Margot Wilson, one of the Council members of Liberal Democrats for Seekers of Sanctuary.

Today, the situation in Burundi is worsening again, as reported here, with each week bringing news of more deadly attacks. If the cycle of violence is to be broken, it is vital that those responsible for mass-murder are held to account for their crimes.

Charlotte’s brother, Richard, has formed an organisation, http://allianceforjustice.net/ which gives more information on both the massacre, and what the campaign is about. Please have a look , and sign up to support the organisation too. The press release with contact details is here. Trafalgar Square vigil for justice and peace in Burundi
